  • Race for Life

    Mon 09 Jun 2025

Here at St Paul’s our mission goes far beyond academics — we are a community that supports, uplifts, and stands together in times of need. When we received the heartbreaking news that not one but two of our pupils had been diagnosed with cancer, we knew we had to act. Salahman, aged 5, was diagnosed with Leukaemia and is currently undergoing a rigorous and aggressive program of chemotherapy. Arooj, who is now in Year 8, suffered from a brain tumour, which was wrapped around one of her optic nerves. This was successfully operated on in 2022 but unfortunately, we received the devastating news that she has recently suffered a relapse when the doctors found another, larger tumour at her follow up appointment this year. We wanted to show our support not just in words, but in action.

That’s why we’ve decided to take part in this year’s Race for Life, joining thousands across the country in raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

    Why We Run

Cancer touches the lives of so many — friends, families, classmates, and teachers. For us, this race is personal. It’s about showing our pupils that they are never alone in their fight. It’s about hope, resilience, and the power of community.

Every step we take is a step toward better treatments, earlier diagnoses, and one day — a cure.

  • A Big Thank You From Grandad's Wheels!

  • Message from Mrs Wood

    Thu 13 Feb 2025

Dear Parents, Carers, and Wider School Family,

I write today to share the news that I am retiring at Christmas this year. I actually informed our Chair of Governors of my decision on 16th January, formally giving notice then. I wanted to give a long notice period in order to give governors plenty of time to recruit a new headteacher and have an effective transition period, and also because I wanted to see school safely through the next OFSTED – and then, lo and behold, we “got the call” from OFSTED on February 3rd! Therefore, that has all worked out nicely – I now know that I won’t be leaving school awaiting an inspection.

Rest assured that Mr Marsden and the other governors have already started the recruitment process for a new headteacher. All is safely in hand.

By the time I retire, I will have worked at St Paul’s, first as deputy and then as head, for 14 years - and this school truly has meant more to me than any of the other schools I’ve worked in. Our children are a delight and I am constantly so proud of them. Also, parents, I would commend to you our hardworking governors and absolutely fantastic, dedicated, skilled staff. They are a wonderful team – please continue to look after them when I’m gone!

I’m pleased that Christmas will be my final term. In a church school, Christmas is a magical, moving, spiritual time. I always love our carol service on the last day in December – and I’ll probably enjoy it even more this year if I can pass the organisation to Mrs Cregg! I don’t think she’ll mind me taking it easier that last afternoon.

Of course, Christmas is a long time away and, until then, I can assure you that I will be working as hard as I always have, continuing trying to find ways to make our lovely school better and better for our precious children.Thank you for your support, the playground chats, the helping out at school events over the years, everyone – and, until Christmas, it’s business as usual!

  • Bethany Fundraising Thank You Letter

    Tue 15 Oct 2024

         The Bethany Family

       6th October 2024

Dear Mrs Wood, Staff and Children,

Thank you for your very generous donation of £1,050.20 in support of the Bethany Family in Tanzania. I enclose a receipt.

I understand the children tried their very best as they took part in a running event which was sponsored by their friends and family.

Emmakulatha, headteacher of the Bethany Pre-Primary School, wrote recently to say how important your continued support is. This is what she said.

“I am so thankful for all the support you are giving to Bethany; I just wish you could see how you are helping to transform the lives of these young people; it is amazing to see how far they have come and what they have achieved.  Hearing some of our children sharing what they liked about the school; the comments just made me remember my childhood at Bethany. Just to share a few; " I feel loved and safe" " I can communicate well in English; I can even talk to our Volunteers from England". Looking at these children, I could just see that they have hope for the future and this is what Bethany is here for.  Bethany is growing each day and is in good hands. May God help us to continue serving this vision together”.

These comments apply in equal measure to the Children’s Home which provides their basic needs comprising food, accommodation, clothing and medical as well as support services in terms of the infrastructure, for example water from Lake Victoria, solar power and the running of vehicles in such a remote area.

I was privileged to go to Bethany recently accompanied by 2 visitors who helped to improve the English spoken by pupils in our primary school. This is essential since secondary education is in English and to give them every chance of securing a job when they are adults. If you are aware of anyone who may be considering visiting Bethany, please get in touch and I would be happy to go through what is involved without any commitment.

Finally, I believe it is important to remember why these children came to Bethany in the first place and where they would be today if it was not for your love and support

    Best wishes
