Geography

Welcome to the GEOGRAPHY page!

Subject Lead

Hello! My name is Mrs Schofield and I am the Geography subject leader at St Paul’s. I have always enjoyed learning about the world around me and love nothing more than travelling to new and interesting places.  When I first became the lead for Geography, I knew very little about what the subject entailed - knowing that maps and countries of the world was involved.  However, it is so much more.  It allows children, and adults, to understand the world around us and how we can help to protect it.

Geography is all about understanding the world we live in and at St Paul’s, our children are encouraged to think like geographers, to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it.

Intent

At St Paul’s, our aim is to inspire and ignite our pupils’ curiosity about the wider world. We aspire to create individuals who are respectful, sensitive and accepting of the world and people in it. We intend to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Curriculum

Our Geography curriculum starts with the child's understanding of their local environment and how it relates to the rest of the world.  It enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferrable to other curriculum areas.

We are well supported by Rising Stars Geography and the KAPOW scheme, staff being able to use these to create lessons which interest and inspire children in the subject.  This is still work in progress, and continues to be improved to provide good outcomes for the children.

Extracurricular Opportunities

For pupils who take a particular interest in Geography, we offer an after school club called 'Eco Warriors'. Ran by the lovely Mr Evans, ‘Eco Warriors’ provides pupils with a deeper understanding of the world around them and hands-on experiences in their natural environment.
