Geography

Welcome to the GEOGRAPHY page!

Subject Lead

Hello! My name is Mrs Thomas and I am the Geography subject leader at St Paul’s. My passion for Geography first began when I was in Primary School. My teacher arranged for my class to have pen pals from a different country and so I made it my life’s mission to find out everything I could about where my new friend was from. I have always enjoyed learning about the world around me and love nothing more than travelling to new and interesting places. Geography is all about understanding the world we live in and at St Paul’s, our children are encouraged to think like geographers, to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it.

Intent

At St Paul’s, our aim is to inspire and ignite our pupils’ curiosity about the wider world. We aspire to create individuals who are respectful, sensitive and accepting of the world and people in it. We intend to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Curriculum

With support from Rising Stars Geography, our curriculum is carefully planned to be age

appropriate and progress is shown across the year groups. It enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferrable to other curriculum areas and it helps children to understand their locality in relation to the UK, in relation to Europe and in relation to the rest of the world.

Extracurricular Opportunities

For pupils who take a particular interest in Geography, we offer an after school club called 'Eco Warriors'. Ran by the lovely Mr Evans, ‘Eco Warriors’ provides pupils with a deeper understanding of the world around them and hands-on experiences in their natural environment.
